The first thing to consider when choosing an appropriate cooking apron is determining what kitchen conditions it will be most used in. If you are a bit of a novice, and merely need a cooking apron to keep flour and tomato sauce off of your favorite shirt, try looking in your local department store's kitchen section. Often you can find quality, affordable cooking aprons that will serve your needs. However, those who are professional chefs and bakers may need to visit a restaurant supply store to acquire the proper cooking apron for the job. Many industrial kitchens employ ovens, grills, and fryers that produce tremendous quantities of heat and a good cooking apron is needed to protect your body from serious burns caused by splattered grease and extreme heat when removing large baked goods from professional ovens.
Although safety and dependability are essential to choosing a cooking apron, you can also choose a cooking apron that makes a statement. Many cooking aprons have pictures and slogans on them, and come in a wide variety of styles and colors. It wouldn't be summer if Dad didn't flaunt his "Kiss the Cook" apron around friends and relatives. Cooking aprons with slogans and designs also make a great gift. Surprise grandma with a cooking apron that has a current picture of the grandkids on it, custom made at your local mall.
Last but certainly not least, not all cooking aprons are one size fits all. If you have an aspiring young, and subsequently shorter chef in the family, give your child a cooking apron that fits appropriately and doesn't drag or pose a safety risk.
